Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Jubaland Holds Consultation Meeting with Key Stakeholders
The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Jubaland (MoFBE-JL) successfully convened a consultation meeting at Agan Hotel in Kismayo to engage with key stakeholders on important sectoral issues. The meeting, which brought together 30 participants, was designed to facilitate open dialogue, gather valuable input, and build consensus on addressing challenges and fostering opportunities in the fisheries and blue economy sector.
The session was officially opened by the Director General of MoFBE, Mohamud Abdi Ahmed, who emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring sustainable development in the fisheries sector. Throughout the meeting, stakeholders were given the platform to discuss the pressing issues faced by the sector, including the risks, challenges, and opportunities for collaboration that exist within the fisheries and blue economy landscape.
One of the key objectives of the consultation was to generate insights into how stakeholders can work together to improve the sustainability and resilience of the fisheries sector in Jubaland. In addition to these discussions, the meeting underscored the need for integrated solutions that will enhance economic growth, food security, and environmental conservation, which are essential to the well-being of local communities.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy remains dedicated to fostering dialogue and strengthening partnerships to support the development of a robust and sustainable fisheries sector. Through continued collaboration with both local and international stakeholders, MoFBE aims to enhance the productivity and sustainability of the sector while empowering fishing communities to overcome the challenges they face.
Importantly, the Ministry extends its sincere appreciation to the World Food Programme (WFP) for its invaluable support in strengthening the fisheries sector. The partnership with WFP has been instrumental in ensuring that the Ministry can implement sustainable practices and bolster local capacity in the region. Their continued support is crucial to the success of the Ministry’s initiatives, and it plays a key role in addressing the unique challenges faced by Jubaland’s fishing communities.
The project being implemented by MoFBE adopts a multifaceted approach that integrates institutional capacity-building, community empowerment, and climate resilience. This comprehensive approach is designed to increase the long-term viability of the fisheries sector by promoting sustainable practices, improving productivity, and strengthening the resilience of local communities.
Through these concerted efforts, the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Jubaland aims to create a fisheries sector that not only drives economic growth but also ensures food security and environmental conservation for future generations. As this collaborative initiative progresses, MoFBE remains focused on achieving its goal of empowering vulnerable communities and building a resilient, sustainable, and prosperous fisheries sector.
