Handing over of Fishing Equipment to Jubaland Fisheries Cooperatives.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy, in collaboration with Secours Islamique France (SIF), distributed essential fishing equipment to six fisheries cooperatives in Jubaland. The distributed items include outboard machines, fishing nets, cooler boxes, and GPS units, all aimed at enhancing the capacity of local fishermen.
This initiative is part of the Strengthening Livelihood Resilience and Disaster Preparedness of Crises-Affected Communities in Jubaland project. The project seeks to strengthen resilience, and enhance food security in crisis-affected communities by promoting sustainable practices and multi-sectoral interventions.
Hon. Mohamed Omar Bunu, the Deputy Minister, expressed his gratitude to SIF for their continued support and urged the fisheries cooperatives to use the equipment responsibly. He emphasized the importance of proper maintenance and assured the ministry’s commitment to monitoring and following up with each cooperative to ensure the equipment remains in use and in good condition.
This project marks another milestone in the ministry’s efforts to support local communities and promote sustainable fishing practices in Jubaland. By equipping fishermen with modern tools and resources, the ministry aims to enhance productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve the livelihoods of thousands of families who rely on fishing as their primary source of income. Additionally, this initiative will contribute to the broader goal of fostering economic growth in coastal areas and ensuring the long-term sustainability of marine resources. The ministry remains committed to working closely with partners like SIF to drive impactful, community-focused interventions that build resilience and create lasting change.
