Celebrating Somali Youth Day in Kismayo with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Jubaland.

In a vibrant display of unity and pride, Somali Youth Day was celebrated with fervor in Kismayo, under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Jubaland. This significant occasion, marked annually on May 15th, commemorates the founding of the Somali Youth League (SYL) in 1943 and serves as a testament to the resilience and determination of Somali youth in shaping the nation’s destiny.

The festivities in Kismayo took on an added significance as the Ministry of Youth and Sports welcomed distinguished guests, including the Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Jubaland Mr. Ahmed Hassan Omar, among other officials. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration and partnership in empowering Somali youth and harnessing their potential for the nation’s development.

In his speech, to the gathered youth and dignitaries, the Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy delivered a stirring address, urging the youth to seize the opportunities before them and become agents of positive change in their communities and beyond. He emphasized the importance of harnessing Somalia’s rich maritime resources and developing sustainable practices to ensure the prosperity of future genera tions.

The Minister highlighted the critical role that Somali youth play in the development of the blue economy, which encompasses fisheries, aquaculture, maritime transport, and tourism. He urged the youth to explore career opportunities in these sectors, emphasizing the potential for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

Furthermore, Mr. Ahmed, stressed the importance of education and skills  development in equipping Somali youth with the knowledge and tools needed to succeed in the blue economy. He encouraged the government to invest in vocational training programs, technical education, and entrepreneurship initiatives to empower young Somalis to build prosperous and sustainable livelihoods.

The Minister’s words resonated deeply with the assembled youth, who were inspired to take action and contribute to the development of Somalia’s blue economy. Throughout the day’s events, discussions and workshops were held to explore ways to support youth engagement and entrepreneurship in the maritime sector, fostering dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders.
