THE MISNITRY OF FISHERIES AND BLUE ECONOMY OF JUBALAND HELD COSTAL CLEANUP TO PROTECT KSIMAYO’S SHORELINE.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Jubaland, through its Department of Marine Environment, successfully organized an International Coastal Cleaning Day along the Kismayo coastline. This significant initiative was led by Marine Environment Director Ahmed Ali Omar and carried out in collaboration with Jubaland Fisheries Cooperatives.
The event focused on addressing the growing problem of coastal pollution, with volunteers working together to remove various types of waste, including plastic bottles, fishing nets, and other debris that had accumulated along the shore. These pollutants pose a serious threat to marine life and the natural beauty of the coastline.
In his remarks, Director Ahmed Ali Omar highlighted the dangers of coastal pollution, particularly the harmful impact of plastics and other non-biodegradable materials on marine ecosystems. He urged the Kismayo community to take responsibility for their environment by disposing of waste properly and refraining from dumping garbage along the coastline.
“We must protect our beautiful coastline, not only for ourselves but for future generations. I encourage everyone to play their part in keeping our beaches clean and preserving the marine life that depends on a healthy environment,” said Director Ahmed Ali Omar.
This event underscores the Ministry’s commitment to environmental stewardship and serves as a strong reminder of the need for collective action in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment in Kismayo.
